Check Out Your Local Library

When is the last time you visited a local library? If you’re not a frequent visitor, there is a good chance that the offerings and environment there are quite different than you recall. Today’s libraries are a resource for books, videos, magazines and more.

Information available at the library can be summed up in one word: multimedia. The Cuyahoga County Public Library and Oberlin Public Library have plenty of eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, music, movies and more. We know, you don’t have to leave the comfort of home to get an eBook or listen to music, but that doesn’t mean a trip to your local library is without benefits.

Visiting the local library is one of the best ways to meet people with interests similar to your own. Public libraries make forming social connections with interesting people a breeze. There are also ample opportunities for people to assemble, converse and collaborate.

Join a Book Club

Book clubs are perfect for those looking to discuss their reading and meet new people. These groups can persuade you to read something you might typically avoid and expose your mind to an entirely new perspective. Members of the group also have a way of conveying new ideas and thought processes you may have never considered. It may just change the way you experience literature from here on out!

Be a Better Writer

Every writer who has ever enjoyed putting pen to paper has chased after that one great piece. No matter the genre, we all want to author something special. But part of chasing that dream involves continually trying to get better.

Joining a writers group can be a huge boost to your skill set. Anyone who has ever written from home knows it can be a struggle sometimes. A writers group may give you the motivation to make time to write and get something on paper. It’s also an opportunity to read your work aloud and experience others reacting to it. Do your sentences sound smooth or do you balk and stumble your way around a fragment? Perhaps the best thing about a writers group is all of the feedback available by respected peers.

Oberlin area residents are fortunate enough to have two great public libraries at their service—the Cuyahoga County Public Library and the Oberlin Public Library. Don’t hesitate to check them out!
